Princeton Comic Makers Weekly Roundup #34
Summary of the Last Meeting (10/9/2024)
Apologies for missing last week’s email! Several events have concluded or passed, namely the Princeton Sketchbook Club deadline and 24-Hour Comics Day. We hope everyone who participated had fun (and also submitted/completed their work on time)! Drawing 24 pages is no small feat, so whether you finished or not, give yourselves a pat on the back. Chris has kindly put together some surprisingly stuffed goodie bags for participants (again, big thanks to Final Boss and jaZams for contributing), which she gave out last Wednesday. If you haven’t received yours, make sure to let her know.
As for the Princeton Sketchbook Club, there is one more date to remember: Friday, November 8, from 5:00-7:00, is the opening celebration. You can see your sketchbooks, those by other artists, and the PCM group one as well!
Two unusual meetings are coming up:
We are going to do a casual Halloween-themed meeting on Wednesday, October 30. Feel free to dress up and bring in snacks. Please no weapons or weapon look-alikes! Also make sure to list the ingredients for any homemade foods. We passed around a sign-up post-it last Wednesday, but if you missed it and still want to contribute, just reply to this email or sound off in Discord and we’ll add you. We will also end the meeting a little earlier than usual, just so there is enough time to clean up.
On Wednesday, November 6, we will be meeting at the Artworks Trenton building (19 Everett Aly, Trenton, NJ 08611-1737) instead of the Princeton Arts Council. Our meeting will still be at its usual time, 7:00 pm.
MoCCA Arts Festival
Chris and Masha have submitted the MoCCA Fest group application, and they should receive a yay or nay around late October. If the group gets in, then everyone can start planning tabling together. A quick summary:
Event date is Saturday-Sunday, March 15-16, 2025
Table is 6’x30” for $500
More people participating means the table cost gets split more, but there will be less space per person to show off their material
Each table gets 2 badges (extras need to be purchased separately)
We also recommend checking out their Vendor FAQ, which contains details on what is provided and who is eligible to apply. The most important thing is “Exhibitors must display some published material (self-published accepted) to be eligible.” If you want to table but don’t have anything published, compiling your images into an anthology would also count as self-published.
Applications
The Jerry’s Artarama ARToberfest 2024 is a local flea-market style art fair coming up soon.
Application deadline: Sunday, October 13

Fee: $25 (plus tax) for 10’x10’ tent space OR $15 (plus tax) for non-tented space that fits a 6’ table
BRING YOUR OWN: Artists must provide their own tents and tables
Event date: Sunday, October 20, 11:00-4:00
Event location: outside Jerry’s Artarama, 2901 US Hwy 1, Lawrenceville, NJ
Note: the forms are in-person at the physical store, but if you cannot drive there, try emailing the manager or assistant manager. Here are pictures of their info sheet and form. Sorry for the janky quality!

Another potential local market/fair may be set up by Final Boss Comics and Games, a store in Lawrence Township, NJ for Halloween. If they move forward with it, we will let you folks know! Here is some tentative info as an interest check (this will also help Floyd (the super cool owner!) get a better gauge on things):
No fee to table, and all sales are yours
Tables provided by Floyd, as many as he can
Tables placed along border of store
Free parking on site
If any of you are interested in flea markets generally, check out this website! It has listings for upcoming shows and fairs across New Jersey. Just double check that the theme of the show matches what you want to buy or sell.
Upcoming Shows
The Artworks Trenton “Sequential” exhibition, October 22 - November 23, is themed around comics and narrative-based art. Luke and Masha both have works featured in this show! The opening celebration is Friday, November 1 from 6:00-8:00. On the event page, you’ll see there are a number of comics-themed tie-in events such as a comics collage class and a book club.
Faraway Reminders
JetLAG Festival (Downsville, NY) is in about half a year, and includes music and camping, as well the opportunity to do installations! If you are looking for something fun to do in several seasons, consider checking this out!
Tomato reminder
We also still have tomato enamel pins, which are $10 for members. The proceeds from these pins go directly to our rent. If you want to help with rent but don’t necessarily want a pin, you can also just give Chris the same amount of money. No pressure, of course, and thank you to everyone who already contributed!
