Princeton Comic Makers Weekly Roundup #33
Summary of the Last Meeting (9/25/2024)
In chronological order:
For anyone participating, the Princeton Sketchbook Club deadline is approaching, Friday, October 4, 4:00pm latest. Please leave your sketchbooks with the front desk by then. The opening celebration will be next month, Friday, November 8, from 5:00-7:00. It sounds like we all have quite
Artworks Trenton is letting us use their space for 24-Hour Comics Day, Saturday, October 5, from 10:00-4:00. The goal is to make a 24-page comic in 24 hours. Don’t worry, though, we won’t hold you for all 24 hours. We will start drawing together, finish at home, and then share our results at the next Wednesday meeting (so you will technically have more than 24 hours to work on your comics). We have some small goodies for folks who complete their comics, courtesy of jaZams and Final Boss Comics & Games!
Halloween is also approaching! We are going to do a casual Halloween-themed meeting on Wednesday, October 30. Feel free to dress up and bring in snacks. Just make sure to list the ingredients for any homemade foods.
We will also be using the Artworks Trenton space on Wednesday, November 6, when we will be meeting there instead of at the Princeton Arts Council. Our meeting will still be at its usual time, 7:00 pm.
Finally, thank you again to Lisa for sharing this tip on Princeton parking: Lot 10 behind Thomas Sweet (the one at 183 Nassau St) has free parking after 4:00 pm. The numbered lots on the opposite side of the street will open after 6:00 pm. Click here for more info.
MoCCA Arts Festival
MoCCA Fest will be March 15-16, 2025, but the application deadline is very soon on October 2. We are tentatively considering getting a table as a collective, which would be $500 for a 6’x30” table. Due to the cost, Chris and Masha are hoping for at least 5 people to participate in order to split the cost to an affordable amount. Participants can split the cost of the table and sell/display their items. Do note that each table only gets 2 badges, and those are for the named applicants.
If you are interested, please let us know! You can respond to this email or DM an admin on Discord. Acceptance and rejection emails will be sent out late October. If the group is accepted, we can then start planning with more specificity (eg. planning table layout, etc.).
We also recommend checking out their Vendor FAQ, which contains details on what is provided and who is eligible to apply. The most important thing is “Exhibitors must display some published material (self-published accepted) to be eligible.” If you want to table but don’t have anything published, compiling your images into an anthology would also count as self-published.

Another potential local market/fair may be set up by Final Boss Comics and Games, a store in Lawrence Township, NJ for Halloween. If they move forward with it, we will let you folks know! Right now, though, this is very tentative.
If any of you are interested in flea markets generally, check out this website! It has listings for upcomings shows and fairs across New Jersey. Just double check that the theme of the show matches what you want to buy or sell.
Upcoming Shows
This year’s Annual Hopewell Tour Des Arts is at the end of September, during which local artists’ studios will be open for public viewing, and their works will be displayed in buildings across the town. One of the artists featured will be our very own Anita! The event is Saturday, September 28, 10:00-5:00; and Sunday, September 29, 11:00-4:00. It is also free! The interactive and printable maps are now available here. Here is also the event Instagram page.
The Artworks Trenton “Sequential” exhibition, October 22 - November 23, is themed around comics and narrative-based art. Luke and Masha both have works featured in this show! The opening celebration is Friday, November 1 from 6:00-8:00. On the event page, you’ll see there are a number of comics-themed tie-in events such as a comics collage class and a book club.
Faraway Reminders
JetLAG Festival (Downsville, NY) is in about half a year, and includes music and camping, as well the opportunity to do installations! If you are looking for something fun to do in several seasons, consider checking this out!
Tomato reminder
We also still have tomato enamel pins, which are $10 for members. The proceeds from these pins go directly to our rent. If you want to help with rent but don’t necessarily want a pin, you can also just give Chris the same amount of money. No pressure, of course, and thank you to everyone who already contributed!
