Princeton Comic Makers Weekly Roundup #21

Summary of the Last Meeting (6/26/2024)

As some of you folks probably noticed last meetup, the Princeton Sketchbook Club (PSC) will host in-person Members Only Sketch-Ins on July 24, August 21, and September 25, which are all Wednesdays, from 6:30-8:30. There was a bit of a mix-up over who got what room and we ended up in the flamenco dance space, but now that the Council remembers we meet at that time in that room, this shouldn’t happen again! Anyways, if any of you are participating in the PSC, definitely check out their Sketch-Ins!

All Princeton Sketchbook Club members are invited to this non-instructional Sketch-In, a chance to work on your books in a welcoming social setting.

Bring your book and favorite art-making tools to enjoy while chatting with your fellow Club members. Get inspired by other sketchers, the ACP gallery exhibitions, and our creative environment for the evening. BYO snackes/bevvies

As for the book club, the next meeting will be July 3, and will discuss up to chapter 39. This is basically the end of the next arc. You can read it online here, or check out your library or bookstore for a print copy.

There are 2 things coming up next year (so no rush, no pressure!) that we would like to get interest checks for. One is making an installation project for the JetLAG Festival. Project proposals can get grants ranging from $50-$1500. These installations do not need to be super intensive; when Masha went, there were many installations made more or less entirely of prefabricated decorations. Do note that the Festival does involve camping in the semi-wilderness with limited internet access, so if this is not your jam, no worries. Here is a link to the JetLAG Festival page, and here is a link to their project application form, where you can read more information.

The second thing is that we are looking for a venue that we can rent to host a 24-Hour Comics Day. Ideally this would be on Saturday, October 5. If you have any ideas, please let us know!

Reminders

It’s summer! If any of you folks are interested in doing outdoor/plein air hangouts, feel free to shout out your interest. Notably, the Princeton University students will be leaving campus soon, so their campus will be prime real estate shortly…

Also, if you were interested, don’t forget about the Princeton Art Council’s Sketchbook Club! It’s $10 if you choose to pick it up in person, and the deadline to turn in the sketchbook is Friday, October 4. We’ll also be getting a copy for Comic Makers people to share.

Bonus

We want to highlight your works and projects in these emails! Anything — big or small, finished or unfinished — we will happily spotlight for you. Let us know in person, through Discord, or just respond to this email with any links, images, etc.

The usual links

For the new folks and anyone who was not receiving emails until recently, please click here to access the backlog of all our email blasts.

And as always, here is the Discord invite link. At first, you'll only see the "about-rules" channel; just enter the command written at the bottom of the guidelines to access to the rest of the server. If the link doesn't work, let us know and we'll send you another.
