Princeton Comic Makers Weekly Roundup #19

Summary of the Last Meeting (6/12/2024)

Thank you to everyone who came to the Cotsen Children’s Library event! It was organized very last minute, so it was amazing seeing so many of you come out and participate. The librarians Dana and Katie were happy with the art and activities we brought, and although there weren’t many children in attendance, those who did come were invested and engaged with our setups (and more importantly, they were all very sweet and cute!). The tour provided personally by head curator Sal for the mail art exhibition was also quite interesting!

Dana and Katie also expressed interest in having us come back for something similar during a busier time of the year. This was actually the first time they held this type of event in June, so they weren’t sure what kind of foot traffic to expect; normally, in other months, they get around 200 children. This hypothetical invitation will be several months away, so obviously there are no plans or announcements about this, but very cool nonetheless!

As for the book club, if you want to participate, please read the first 25 episodes of Griz Grobus by June 26. You can read it online here. There is also a print edition, if you prefer physical media. Taken from it’s description:

On a distant planet, a prying scribe, an overly sentimental constable, and a mayor resurrect a sleepy town’s long-defunct priest-bot. But “Father Stanley” is not what he seems. Meanwhile, in another universe, a hungry wizard accidentally sends a war-god into the body of a chicken... Story by Simon Roy and Jess Pollard, Art by Simon Roy, Colors by Sergey Nazarov! UPDATES EVERY TUESDAY!

Reminders

It’s summer! If any of you folks are interested in doing outdoor/plein air hangouts, feel free to shout out your interest. Notably, the Princeton University students will be leaving campus soon, so their campus will be prime real estate shortly…

Also, if you were interested, don’t forget about the Princeton Art Council’s Sketchbook Club! It’s $10 if you choose to pick it up in person, and the deadline to turn in the sketchbook is Friday, October 4. We’ll also be getting a copy for Comic Makers people to share.

Bonus

We want to highlight your works and projects in these emails! Anything — big or small, finished or unfinished — we will happily spotlight for you. Let us know in person, through Discord, or just respond to this email with any links, images, etc.

The usual links

For the new folks and anyone who was not receiving emails until recently, please click here to access the backlog of all our email blasts.

And as always, here is the Discord invite link. At first, you'll only see the "about-rules" channel; just enter the command written at the bottom of the guidelines to access to the rest of the server. If the link doesn't work, let us know and we'll send you another.
