Princeton Comic Makers Weekly Roundup #17

Summary of the Last Meeting (5/29/2024)

First of all, the Princeton Community Pride Picnic is tomorrow, May 31, from 4:30-7:30. It will be at Hinds Plaza (right in front of the Princeton Public Library); in the event of rain, the Picnic will be inside the Library. It’s a fun, casual way to kick off Pride Month, featuring drag performances, giveaways, and a Maker Alley!

We will also be getting a getting a communal sketchbook as part of the Princeton Art Council’s Sketchbook Club! The deadline to submit the sketchbook is Friday, October 4, so everyone interested should have plenty of time to spend with it. While the Arts Council owns the physical book, you will still retain ownership of the artwork. Definitely feel free to get one for yourselves as well; it’s fun!

Finally, sign ups for in-person drawing for the Cotsen Children’s Library event are closed, but the Library is still accepting art submissions. The absolute latest that art can be submitted is right before the event, June 8 at 9:00 AM. Otherwise, please bring your submission to our next meeting, June 5, and we will deliver them to the Library for you. Just a reminder regarding submissions, please bring single copies only (since you cannot make sales), but business cards are perfectly fine. Additionally, for those who are fashion-forward, please be aware that we will have a “uniform” t-shirt to wear, sized XL. The Library is very generously covering the cost!

And even if you don’t plan on participating or submitting anything, please do stop by! The exhibit, “Ulises Carrión: Bookworks and Beyond,” is very interesting, and more importantly seeing your faces will brighten our day. The Cotsen Children’s Library is on the 1st floor of the Princeton University’s Firestone Library, and the event will be from 10:00-2:00.

Reminders

It’s summer! If any of you folks are interested in doing outdoor/plein air hangouts, feel free to shout out your interest. Notably, the Princeton University students will be leaving campus soon, so their campus will be prime real estate shortly…

Big Bonus

We want to highlight your works and projects in these emails! Anything — big or small, finished or unfinished — we will happily spotlight for you. Let us know in person, through Discord, or just respond to this email with any links, images, etc.

Small Bonus

As part of the Cotsen Children's Library exhibit, there were artist talks (no longer available, unfortunately) by visiting artist Alex Turgeon, who was my TA while they were a grad student at Mason Gross. Small world! I just want to give their art a shout out; please check out their work. They’re an interdisciplinary artist who finds overlaps and connections between poetry, architecture, video, and more. I hope they are doing well!

The usual links

For the new folks and anyone who was not receiving emails until recently, please click here to access the backlog of all our email blasts.

And as always, here is the Discord invite link. At first, you'll only see the "about-rules" channel; just enter the command written at the bottom of the guidelines to access to the rest of the server. If the link doesn't work, let us know and we'll send you another.
