Maybe Good Enough Is Pretty Good

🌼 Jill's Bright Spot

This Week's Bloom 🌸

Cosmos — Joy • Harmony • Simplicity

Cosmos seem perfectly happy being exactly what they are. Perhaps they're onto something.

Have you ever started doing one simple thing and somehow turned it into an entire project? I certainly have.

You decide you're going to straighten one drawer. That's it, one drawer, twenty minutes, tops.

Then you discover something in that drawer that belongs in another room. While putting it away, you notice a shelf that needs organizing. On the shelf is something you've been looking for since March, which reminds you of another project you never finished!

Two hours later, the original drawer is still open, the contents are spread across the counter, and you're standing in the middle of the house wondering how this happened.

Please tell me I'm not the only one. 😉

I think sometimes we make life harder than it needs to be because we want everything to be just right.

The perfectly organized house, the perfect meal, the perfect garden. The perfectly answered email or the perfect outfit.

See? I’m exhausted just typing it!

Maybe everything doesn't have to be perfect.

Maybe good enough is actually pretty good.

That's why I like the cosmos for this week's flower. Have you ever looked closely at one? They're cheerful and a little wispy, and they seem to dance around whenever there's a breeze.

They're not trying terribly hard to impress anybody. They just bloom.

Wouldn't it be nice if we gave ourselves permission to do a little more of that?

Make the dinner—even if it isn't worthy of a cooking show.

Or invite friends over—even if the house isn’t perfect.

Wear the outfit, take the picture or laugh when things don't go according to plan. 😉

Life is simply too short to wait until everything is perfect before we enjoy it.

Some of my favorite memories aren't perfect at all. They're messy, funny, spontaneous moments when nobody was worried about whether everything looked just right.

Maybe that's where some of life's best stuff hides. Not in perfection, but in participation.

Being present and showing up. But more importantly, being grateful for what we have while we're fortunate enough to have it.

🌼 Before We Turn the Page...

This week, give yourself permission to let one thing be good enough.

Then use the time you would have spent perfecting it to do something better.

Call a friend. Sit outside. Read a few pages of a good book. Tell someone you love them. Or simply enjoy a quiet cup of coffee.

And while you're at it, remind someone else who's trying very hard that they're doing just fine.

Sometimes a little encouragement is the nicest thing we can give.

Many Blessings and Blossoms,
~ Jill ~
