Hello again! Our next #RoyalVegasRetreat2021 vendor spotlight features Canadian brand GHOST GiRL GOODS! Read on to learn more about this brand.
What is the story behind your store and brand logo? Ever since the beginning of highschool, grade 9, I always knew I wanted to do something within the field of sewing. At first, it was making costumes, but then it evolved into making clothes! After highschool, I went to college for fashion, worked at a dance costume company, and during my working time, I created my brand! Many names and ideas got shuffled around between 2011 - 2014. But in Sept. of 2014, the name GHOST GiRL GOODS was solidified!
As for the brand name, it actually comes from a Cantonese slang word for “white girl” that translates into “ghost girl”! LOL So the brand name itself is GHOST GiRL GOODS, which essentially means “my goods that I am creating for you!”, since I am ghost girl! Because I am a white girl, yet I love asian cultures so much (so many different aspects from different asian cultures, whether its Chinese, Korean, Japanese, ect.). So it’s just a silly little meaning behind it, yet it grew into me creating my very own ghost girl character, who you see as the brand’s logo!
What would your store “elevator pitch” be? GHOST GiRL GOODS is a Canadian clothing brand creating original goods with a fusion of hip hop and pop styles, while also selling Japanese brands straight from Harajuku.
How has your store evolved since its inception? I actually created the brand back in 2014, but didn’t officially launch it until 2017. Between 2014-2017, I really learned how to run a business on my own, as well as attend college, balance a full time job, create my own garments by hand, etc etc. It was a big step in 2017, when I attended my first anime convention to sell my products! The brand launched off with a collaboration I did with my great friend, the “Bubble Tees” collection! At this point, I was able to have goods made in larger quantities. Over the years, I worked my buns off doing what I could to keep the brand growing and going. I was even fortunate enough to work together with some kawaii fashion brands from Japan to show and sell their products here in Canada!
Now, I have a business partner (and love partner hehe!) and some great friends who are always there to help out when needed! I am thankful for everyone who watched the brand grow to where it is today and hope they will continue to watch it into the future!
What kind of products can people expect to find in your store? We sell a variety of clothing and accessories!
GHOST GiRL GOODS products range from stickers, necklaces, socks, and hats, to garments like t-shirts, dresses, sweaters, etc! They work for a variety of styles like decora, lolita, and casual j-fashion looks. Recently, I released a line of more easy to wear garments, like some basic cut graphic t-shirts. That way, people can enjoy my brand, even if they don’t like the items that are more “out there”! We also sell Japanese brands like 6% DOKIDOKI, NUEZZZ, and HYPER CORE. All of these brands fuse well with GHOST GiRL GOODS items, so we try to bring a variety of items from those brands also!
How do you decide what brands to carry? When I travel to Japan, I try my best to make as many connections with other designers as possible! If there is a brand I like, I try to arrange meetings to see if they would be interested in me having their items sold in Canada!
How do you get brands to sell through you? As mentioned in the previous question, during my travels, I make connections with brands and designers to arrange to have their products sold here in Canada!
What is your favourite GHOST GiRL original item? As much as each product has its own unique touch and love put into it, the GHOSTOWN PARADE Zipper Tees have to be my most favourite, simply because…they’re just so cool! Hahaha!
There is also a new item, which is the GHOST GiRL chibi plushie! (It will be released for a special collaboration in November!)
What is the most popular item that you sell? It’s the zipper tees! Haha that’s why they are my favourite (because they’ve been such a hit!)
What does a day in the “store” look like for you? I don’t have a physical store! But a day in my life consists of going to my full-time job, then coming home to work on GGG stuff! Previously, I worked at a dance costume company. But just this year, I got a new job working at a company that makes luxury streetwear brands! So clothing and fashion is part of my day, 24/7 haha!
