Hello, friends! Welcome to the last post of our validating content for newcomers series. Growth in Lolita fashion can look like a lot of different things - settling into your favorite substyle, fusing your aesthetic with other types of J-fashion, or just making coords that make you happy. Today, we’ll be sharing some of our favorite resources for growing in the fashion. These are only a few resources among the many, many resources out there - what are your favorites?
Sizing in Lolita fashion is tough to navigate. This list of resources makes it a little easier. While your mileage may vary with Facebook groups, this list is a great starting point for support and information about shopping for plus sizes in the fashion. We’d like to shout out the first link in the tree, Size-Inclusive Sweet Lolita Brands from Milkcircus. This post is very thorough and links to a bunch of other resources. Of course, do your own research as well before buying from a particular brand, and make sure that their actions are in line with your values.
Sometimes you want all the links in one place! This post by Mahou Queen has tons of resources, and the author keeps it up to date.
Washing your clothes, especially your oldest old-school pieces, is genuinely difficult! Avina breaks it down in their Royal Vegas Online panel with real, tested advice and a live demo.
Okay, we’re clearly biased towards RVO content but it’s so good! Our pal Mindy’s panel provides inspiration and explanation in the expansive world of accessories.
Sometimes, you get to a point in your personal aesthetic where you’re wondering - what’s next? I have a wardrobe I like, but not all of my coords pop, and I can’t tell why? Kaiser’s panel from Bay Area Kei’s Sea of Serenity event will get you to the next level. They share their designer-ly advice and insight and provide multiple vectors (layering, texture, silhouette, pattern, motifs) to focus on as you improve your coords. This is, in Nif’s opinion, some of the best advanced-level advice out there. (Live events are subject to technical difficulties - our link above scoots you past those and to the pretty pictures portion.)
Lolita fashion and J-fashion in general are often at their best when they’re at their most expansive - and one way to achieve that is mixing styles. Kamilah from Hard Decora provides solid advice on how to achieve your optimal aesthetic!
If you, like Nif, missed out on experiencing old school Lolita fashion firsthand, and you’re a little mystified as to what makes something old school - check out this panel from Purestmaiden, where she goes into the history of old school in-depth.
Great for getting to the basics, this playlist from Fluffy Kawaii Jo touches on just about anything you may be wondering about as an absolute newcomer to the fashion.
PPC staffer Ruthie goes through a live!! demo!! altering her own brand piece. Altering brand can be terrifying! But Ruthie makes it seem altogether unintimidating.
There are so many wonderful resources out there to help you grow in the fashion. Did we miss one on this list that you absolutely love? Let us know - tweet at us @ppcllcrvr.
This is a new section we’re introducing to our posts to help keep the focus on social justice in our communities. Before you buy a new main piece, consider donating to support COVID relief efforts in India. This carrd will point you toward organizations that need your support. And in addition to or instead of donating, you can also write your elected officials and demand that they commit to ending vaccine apartheid.
We will begin shifting the focus of this content towards our event starting next week, May 7. We are still cautiously optimistic, with the state of vaccine rollout, that we may be able to put on our event as planned this November. If you signed up to volunteer with us you should have gotten an email containing a survey link - please fill it out so we can better understand your concerns about COVID-19.
As always, check us out anytime at prettyprincess.club. Stay home when possible, stay safe, mask up, wash your hands, and get vaccinated if you can!
