#219 Blasted furnace hellscape
Boost. Roll. Fan. Noodle.
27 MAY 2026
Happy Wednesday, everyone!
So I was awoken at 6.30am this morning by Radio launching himself onto the bed and licking my face off. And I thought - I know, I’ll get up and get the newsletter done early.
And then I clicked on the second recommendation below and somehow it’s now TWO HOURS LATER and I’ve just been trying to collect all the numbers and win all the battles.
So, don’t click on that link if you have stuff to do today, I guess.
Rule of three

[Improv] David is Curious
As long as I’ve known David Escobedo, he has always championed improv in all its many and varied forms. I was very honoured to appear on his podcast David is Curious this week. We recorded the episode on the train - Subway Takes-style - which means we keep getting interrupted and exhorted to See it, say it, sorted by the railway lady.

[Game] Number Gacha
Other than the pictures of Radio, the most popular feature of this newsletter are the internet games that I’ve shared. WELL HERE’S ANOTHER ONE, courtesy of my excellent friend, Chris Lewis. It’s called Number Gacha and all you have to do is roll every number from 1 to 100. It starts simple and then quickly and gleefully expands its ruleset in many different and bizarre directions. TOP TIP: You can use hearts as shields.

[Heat] Neck Fan
This week the UK has been turned into a blasted furnace hellscape of heatwave-induced melted clag. The only way I’ve got through it is by buying a Jisulife Portable Neck Fan. Seriously, I’m wearing it right now. I wouldn’t be able to function without it. It sits round my neck and blasts cool air up onto my face whilst keeping my hands free to type this very newsletter. Highly recommended (until the weather goes back to the grey sunless bliss that I crave).
Spotlight

This Friday is Pretend Night. If you’d like an evening of utterly top notch improvised theatre, then we’ve got quite the show for you.
We’re talking:
The Party I had the pleasure of coaching them this week and they are not only VERY funny but they’re brilliant actors and story-tellers too.
The Pretend Ensemble I love this team. I feel so at home playing with them. Everyone has tonnes of improv experience and skill, and yet they still retain that beautiful mischievous energy that only truly special improvisers have.
Instant Noodling The best improv duo currently performing in London? I think you could make a very strong argument to that effect. They are certainly my favourite.
We’re still trying to build the audience for the show so we’d really love it if you could join us on Friday.
