Cursor Review (August 2026): buy, hold, or switch

SpaceX is buying Cursor for $60B. Here is what solo devs, teams, and enterprises should do before the deal closes.

AUGUST 11TH, 2026 · BY JONATHAN HILDEBRANDT

SpaceX agreed to buy Anysphere, Cursor's parent, for $60B all-stock, with the deal closing this quarter. The product is unchanged so far, but third-party model access inside your editor is now a call that xAI gets to make.

In today's brief:

  • Don't sign annual Cursor contracts before the SpaceX deal closes
  • OpenAI's new cyber model clears 95% of offensive security prompts
  • ByteDance ships full-duplex audio-video LLM to 155M users
  • Intel raises $15B as AI data-center demand outpaces supply
  • Sequoia leads $60M seed for Corma AI cyber defense
  • Claude Code auto mode becomes the default on August 14

Models & Releases

ByteDance ships SeedRealtime to 155M users: full-duplex audio, video, and text in one model

AUGUST 11TH · PONDERO NEWSDESK

SeedRealtime processes audio, video, and text in one architecture, with no cascaded pipeline, and shipped to Doubao on August 5. With 155M weekly active users, this is the first mass-market rollout of a native multimodal full-duplex LLM. Voice-agent latency has been the wall, and cutting the transcription hop is the path to real conversation.

Daybreak splits into Blue for defense and Red for exploit development, gated to Accenture, IBM, CrowdStrike, and Cloudflare. A hardware security key is mandatory for every tier from September 1. Offensive AI security tooling is now a gated product with a paper trail, not a jailbreak you talk your way into.

Money & Moves

Intel raises $15B as AI data-center revenue jumps 59% year over year

AUGUST 11TH · PONDERO NEWSDESK

The underwritten offering carries a $2.25B overallotment option, per Intel's newsroom. Tesla signed on as a foundry customer, and the 14A process targets high-volume production in 2028. A second credible leading-edge foundry changes who can get advanced silicon outside TSMC.

Sequoia leads $60M seed for Corma, an AI cyber defense startup from DeepMind and Unit 8200 veterans

AUGUST 11TH · PONDERO NEWSDESK

In internal simulations, AI attackers succeeded 88% of the time and AI defenders caught 12%, per SiliconAngle. That gap is the thesis behind this week's cyber-model launches - in the sims, the defenders are losing.

Tools & How-To
Claude Code auto mode news illustration

Claude Code makes auto mode the default on August 14

AUGUST 11TH · PONDERO NEWSDESK

In a blinded study of 1,053 paid developers, human review caught 13.6% of clearly dangerous commands while auto mode blocked 89%, per Anthropic's announcement. Each tool call routes through a classifier that falls back to manual after three blocks in a row. Pin your org default before August 14 if you run a team on Pro, Max, or Team.
