Anthropic is taking back a third of the boost it gave you.

17% fewer Claude Code units land September 14 - 13 days to audit and adjust

The temporary 50% Claude Code usage boost expires September 13. Its permanent replacement lands September 14 at 25% above the original baseline, which is 17% below what Pro, Max, Team, and seat-based Enterprise subscribers hold today.

Tools & How-To
OpenAI ends Cursor model access November 12

OpenAI stops supplying models to Cursor on November 12

OpenAI notified Cursor on August 28 that it is winding down model access under a change-of-control clause triggered by SpaceX's acquisition. Cursor CEO Michael Truell told Engadget OpenAI serves roughly 5% of Cursor traffic, and Anthropic has pledged more compute for the Claude models covering the rest - stay month-to-month until Cursor publishes a written model-access commitment.

Infostealer malware hijacking Claude sessions

Infostealer malware is draining Claude quotas with stolen cookies

Six infostealer families are lifting live Claude session cookies off compromised machines and burning subscription quota: Vidar, LummaC2, StealC, RedLine, and Acreed on Windows, plus Atomic Stealer on macOS. Cookie replay bypasses passwords and MFA entirely - your tell is limits that refill and then drain while you were not logged in. Scan the endpoint.

Cloudways

Three of today's stories are one story: the model under your tool changed and nobody asked you. If September 14 pushes your agent loop over the line, the hedge is a box you control. Cloudways runs the self-hosted stack (Open WebUI, n8n, Flowise, open-weight models) on managed hardware, with no vendor quota to expire. Spin up a server →

Policy & Legal

The EU AI Office sent its first GPAI information requests

Executive Vice-President Henna Virkkunen confirmed on August 29 that the AI Office sent its first Requests for Information to general-purpose model providers - OpenAI, Anthropic, and Google among the recipients, four weeks after enforcement powers went live August 2. Questions focus on model security, independent evaluations, and post-market monitoring. Stonewalling carries a separate fine up to 15 million euros or 3% of worldwide turnover, per CNBC.

Sony Music Publishing and Warner Chappell sued Anthropic

Filed August 29 in Northern California federal court, the complaint names Dario Amodei and Benjamin Mann personally and alleges torrenting and scraping to train Claude on tens of thousands of copyrighted compositions. Publishers seek up to $150,000 in statutory damages per willfully infringed work (TechCrunch) - naming individual executives as defendants changes how discovery runs. Put training-data provenance on your AI vendor review next to SOC 2.

Quick Hits
• GitHub Copilot retired six models today. Gemini 3.1 Pro, Claude Opus 4.5 and 4.6, Claude Sonnet 4.5 and 4.6, and Raptor Mini left every Copilot surface - admins who skipped model policies may find completions silently downgraded. Replacement map →
• Perplexity Comet Enterprise went GA on August 27. Silent MDM deploy, agent permission controls (full, read-only, or off), and opt-in CrowdStrike Falcon at no extra charge - $40 per seat monthly for Enterprise Pro, $325 for Enterprise Max (per Perplexity). What ships →
• Anthropic opened 10,000 Claude Team seats to scientists. Standard is free, Premium is $15 a month at 5x the limits, both locked 12 months for verified PIs at academic and nonprofit institutions (per Anthropic). Who qualifies →
• ChatGPT ads crossed a $1B annualized run rate in under 200 days. OpenAI targets $2.5B for the year, with self-serve live in 40-plus countries - consumer ChatGPT is now funded by attention, a different roadmap than the one API buyers plan against. Forbes →
• OpenAI bought tens of thousands of Mac minis and Mac Studios. The Information reports the fleet runs reinforcement learning for computer-use agents - Anthropic rents equivalent Apple silicon through AWS for the same workloads. TechRepublic →

Cursor Review September 2026 - rating drops to 4.2

Cursor drops to 4.2, and here is the call for your plan tier

Cursor is still the strongest multi-model editor you can install today - the OpenAI exit closes one lane of four, not the core. Solo dev on Pro at $20 a month (cursor.com/pricing) already running Claude or Gemini: keep it, move your Tab model off GPT. Teams of 3 to 10: stay month-to-month. Enterprise at 50-plus seats: require a written model-access and data-routing guarantee before renewal.
