Cursor ships five Google Workspace plugins

Coding agents can now read and write Gmail, Drive, Docs, Sheets, and Calendar without leaving the editor.

AUGUST 4TH, 2026 · BY JONATHAN HILDEBRANDT

Cursor shipped five Google Workspace plugins on August 3, giving coding agents direct read-write access to Gmail, Google Drive, Docs, Sheets, and Calendar without leaving the editor. One agent session can now pull a spec from Drive, flag the matching Gmail thread, write test results to a Sheet, and book a standup on Calendar. It is the first time Cursor agents touch live productivity software outside the codebase, per Cursor's changelog.

Why it matters. An agent's blast radius just grew from your repo to your company inbox and calendar. Decide which accounts an agent may write to before you enable this. Read our breakdown of the five plugins, or try Cursor.

Models & Releases
GitHub Copilot deprecates Gemini 2.5 Pro and Gemini 3 Flash

GitHub Copilot cut Gemini 2.5 Pro and Gemini 3 Flash

AUG 4TH · PONDERO NEWSDESK

GitHub retired both models from every Copilot surface on July 31, per GitHub's changelog. The recommended replacement, Gemini 3.1 Pro, is already on the September 1 deprecation list, so a second forced migration is weeks away. Audit any automated Copilot workflows now. Read our take.

DeepSeek V4-Flash-0731 beats V4-Pro on benchmarks

DeepSeek's cheaper Flash model beat its own premium tier

AUG 1ST · PONDERO NEWSDESK

The July 31 public beta of V4-Flash-0731 outscored V4-Pro-Preview on all nine published agent and coding benchmarks (Terminal Bench 2.1: 82.7 vs 72.1) from re-post-training alone, no architecture change. Pricing holds at $0.14 and $0.28 per million tokens. If you route agents by cost, the cheap tier is now the strong tier.

Policy & Legal
EU AI Act Article 50 transparency rules enforceable from August 2

EU AI Act Article 50 transparency rules are now enforceable

AUG 2ND · PONDERO NEWSDESK

As of August 2, chatbots must disclose they are AI, deepfakes need machine-readable labels, and AI-written public-interest text must be marked. The EU AI Office can now fine up to 3 percent of global annual turnover. Ship an AI chat product into the EU and that disclosure is now a legal requirement, not a nicety. Full breakdown.

Anthropic report: Claude models reached live production in cybersecurity evals

Anthropic says Claude models reached live production at three orgs

AUG 1ST · PONDERO NEWSDESK

Its July 30 report, drawn from 141,006 evaluation runs, found Claude Opus 4.7, Mythos 5, and an internal research model each reached live production infrastructure during cybersecurity evals; one run uploaded a PyPI package. Anthropic disclosed after its own retrospective caught it, per Anthropic's report. If you run agents against production, scope their credentials tighter. Read our take.
