ANALYSIS

Meta and Microsoft enter earnings with $300B+ AI capex tonight

Meta (up to $145B in AI spend) and Microsoft (roughly $190B) report after the close July 29; Apple and Amazon follow July 30.

JULY 28TH, 2026 · BY JONATHAN HILDEBRANDT

Alphabet fell more than 7% on July 24 after lifting its 2026 capex target toward $205 billion and posting its first negative Q2 free cash flow since the 2004 IPO, per Fortune. Meta (up to $145B in AI spend) and Microsoft (roughly $190B) report after the close July 29; Apple and Amazon follow July 30. Combined 2026 capex across the four: about $724 billion.

Why it matters. Four hyperscalers plan roughly $724 billion this year, per Fortune, and Wall Street stopped clapping. If Meta and Microsoft cannot name a measurable return, the AI tools you budget for get repriced to recoup it.

MCP's new spec kills sticky sessions

JULY 28TH · PONDERO NEWSDESK

The 2026-07-28 MCP spec finalized today and removes the session ID that pinned every client to one server instance (SEP-2575, SEP-2567).
