Fable 5, Anthropic's highest-capability model, has been dark since June 12 under a US export-control order. Commerce Secretary Howard Lutnick's June 27 letter says Anthropic "has worked with the U.S. government to address risks" and that those efforts "have yielded significant progress." Mythos 5 already cleared on June 27 for 100-plus critical-infrastructure organizations, and full public restoration is expected before July 4. Why it matters. Sixteen days offline pushed teams back to Sonnet and GPT-5.x for their hardest work.
