Hey there!

A new month, a new update from your friends at PONDER. Welcome to the November edition of our newsletter 🍁

October was an interesting month for us. Cool new projects in the pipeline (more on that in the future), another round of COVID (all’s well!) and the Berlin school holidays thrown in for good measure (😅).

But actually, our guests at the Haus of Ponder were the most exciting thing – and we would like to tell you about them today.

Let’s go!

a collage of impressions from the Scientist Rebellion takeover

Studio takeover: Scientist Rebellion 📢👩‍🔬

If you’ve read one or two of our previous newsletters, you should know how much we love our space by the water – and how much we love sharing it with others. And if you happen to follow our social media accounts, you might have already seen some bits and pieces about our most recent guests.

Here’s the full story: During the second half of October, our Haus of Ponder became the home base for @scientistrebellion, who came to Berlin from all parts of Europe for a week of concentrated action. Like their bigger sibling, Extinction Rebellion, Scientist Rebellion use non-violent civil disobedience to raise awareness for the climate crisis and its urgency.

We gave our space to a group of professors and PhD candidates, biologists, physicists, philosophers, psychologists, astrophysicists and many more. So that they could reconnect, recharge and prepare between their actions.

When not preparing banners for their next action, our guests hosted inspiring panel discussions, and brought in DJs and danced to their music. Also, they got very creative with our kettle (get in touch for additional detail 😉).

As a social studio built around the idea of contributing to positive change, we were happy to have them around and very much support their cause.

Please don’t be shy and let us know if your group or initiative is in need of a safe space! 💕

A few impressions of our studio live and a call-out to join our team

Join us: We are looking for an intern! 😊🤝

We’re looking for someone to support us on various client projects and initiatives that revolve around design in one way or another – however, we want to explicitly encourage candidates from all kinds of backgrounds to apply. Don’t shy away if you don’t have a traditional design education.

We mainly need you to be passionate, independent and brave enough to dive into topics like research, digital design, community building, animation and strategy. We’re curious to hear your story and learn from you!

Our positions are open to all, but we’ll prioritise applications from women, trans and non-binary people, BIPOC and people with disabilities as well as those from less privileged financial and social backgrounds.

The facts:
⏱ Duration 4 – 6 months
🚀 Start as soon as possible
🗯 EN required, DE is a plus
🤑 1.665 EUR with 4 days/week

Send your questions and application to hello@ponder.haus or send us a DM, voice message or a video on instagram @theponderteam – choose whatever makes you feel most comfortable.

Weekend send-off

As a regular reader, you know what’s next – our inspirational weekend send-off.

In this issue, we’ve talked a fair bit about people and what they do. But we didn’t talk too much about design work. So why not end with something slightly more design-related? Here’s a simple yet very cool website you can use to inspire and empower your own design decisions:

TOOL: Randoma11y

Imagine you’re designing this new website (or logo, presentation, or Instagram post). Still, you’re stuck finding a good colour scheme for it.
Wouldn’t it be nice to get some good-looking combinations suggested right in your browser? Wouldn’t it be even nicer if someone made sure those new fancy colours provide a good contrast for readability so that your designs stay accessible to everyone? Here comes Randoma11y (“Random Accessibility”) – a website that serves a new random beautiful, accessible colour combination every time you refresh it.

So don’t wait for inspiration; go and get it!

Thank you so much for reading!

Hasta pronto,
Your friends at Ponder
