Pobail Stomp Turns One, and Other Stuff!
Good evening, everyone! Following the successful Swing Season last month, tonight will be one last free night in a row - because we’re celebrating Pobail Stomp’s birthday!
It’s been a full year since we started the weekly dance, breaking only for the Christmas period. At a future date we might share some fun statistics, but we’ve been averaging about 40 people an evening, which has been wonderful attendance post-lockdown.
People sometimes ask us about the name of the group: Pobail is the Gaélige word for community and we use Stomp as a synonym for dance. This combination of words espouses two of the values we care about - why we dance, and where we come from.
The night has been run as an ensemble for its entire duration, and we would like to thank the following people for making the night what it is: Alan, Alihan, Ana, Angelica, Cristina, Elisa D, Elisa F, Eric, Gabriel, Ismail, Jacqui, Javier, Jiří, Meadhbh, Melanie, Nil, Nilsun, Sinead M, Sybren, Thomas, Vincent, Virginie & Vivek.
Thank you for your time and your kindness. And thank you to everyone for building and maintaining the atmosphere that has made Thursday evenings a shining light in everyone’s week.
Finally, we have two other things to draw your attention to!
Fáilte Hot Club is on the 19th this month. Get your tickets as soon as possible; it’s likely to be the last of the year. We’re also running a St Louis Shag Workshop earlier in the day following the popularity of the taster at The Emerald Interlude!
