A short St Louis Shag course, and an end to our social
Introduction to St Louis Shag
Today marks the end of the six week Collegiate Shag Basics course taught by Cristina, Gabriel & Nikoletta. Finishing something in the middle of the month leaves us with an extra two weeks, and we’ve decided to run an introduction to St Louis Shag in the same time slot!
You can sign up for it with this google form.
St Louis Shag is a regional style from St Louis, Missouri, and was historically danced alongside St Louis Jitterbug as part of Imperial Style, named after a ballroom local to the region. It has some key figures and rhythms that are uncommon in most swing dance styles.

Confirmation emails will go out on Friday and Tuesday.
Social dance closure
We’ve decided to close our weekly social dance. There are a multitude of factors involved, but the primary reason is that it cannot cover its own costs anymore. We discussed many practical ways to address this such as changing how we advertise or how much we pay people, but all compromise on the spirit of why we run events at all. The 28th of February will be our last weekly social dance.
Many of the ensemble behind the event are also involved with The Emerald Interlude, which you’ll continue to see updates for in the coming months. We’ll actually be combining newsletters and Instagram accounts for simplicity, reducing the places people need to check to get news.
Pobail Stomp may run more events in the future, but they will likely be on an ad-hoc basis. For the time being, we’re taking a well-earned break after keeping the ball rolling with few breaks since November 2021. You’ll hear news about anything we decide to do here and elsewhere.
Thank you for coming to our events - we facilitate the space, but it’s you who make the community.
