july 2022 recap

top ten anime betrayals

haven't watched anything

see you next month bye

okay fine. i literally didn't watch a single episode of anime for the entire month of july, for reasons that will be made clear next month. to tide you over, here are some favs from spring 2018.

spring 2018 recommendations

sword art online alternative: gun gale online (spring 2018)

action, video games

i know it says SAO. it's not though. this is like actually good. i get that you're not convinced, but the GGO light novels weren't even written by the mainline SAO guy. it's really not the same thing at all! anyway, Tall Girl Karen starts playing VR PUBG because her randomly generated in-game avatar is the moe blob she's always wanted to be. she gets really good at the game and makes a bunch of friends, and perhaps even a Gal Pal™. only 13 episodes and no world-shattering stakes, just a fun romp with good character development.

dragon pilot: hisone and masotan (spring 2018)

military, dragons

hey, another one about female friendships! and human-dragon friendships! hisone is a blunt weirdo who joins the air force, and finds the camaraderie she never thought she could have. it's got a bit of a How to Train Your Dragon vibe, but set in modern day and the dragons are essentially fighter jets with personalities. the plot goes in a weird direction but in a good and interesting way.

hinamatsuri (spring 2018)

psychics, yakuza, comedy

on a scale of mob psycho 100 to saiki k, this is exactly in the middle. a selfish yakuza adopts a child psychic from the future due to ... circumstances, and hijinks ensue. other characters include the middle school class president who is roped into becoming a bartender (funniest subplot), and a rival child psychic from the future who ends up living in a homeless encampment (genuinely moving subplot). everyone is a moron, especially the adults. fun and charming, and oh yeah, more female friendships! we love to see it.

other stuff

  • everyone loves the music from persona 5 the video game

okay see you next month bye
