PFP Lab Notes #1: one rule declared, one idea dead

You signed up for updates on pixelforgeplays.com a while back. This is the first one. If it's not for you, the unsubscribe link is at the bottom, no hard feelings.

Quick version of what PFP is now: we write simple betting rules, freeze them before they see a game, and grade every pick against the closing line in public. Most rules will die. That's the point.

What happened this week:

  1. A new rule entered the race. N2 (NHL totals) is now declared for the Standard. It starts at zero. Nothing it did before the declaration counts.
  2. An idea died. We tested whether empty-net goals have become more common in a way the totals market misses. Five seasons of data. The answer is no, or at least not clearly enough to bet on. Logged and parked until after this season.
  3. A quiet rule got checked. One of our sealed rules hasn't fired in its first 40 games. Instead of guessing, we tested the whole pipe end to end. It works and it matches its backtest exactly. It's just been a quiet stretch. We'll check again in two weeks.
  4. UFC is on tape. We started recording closing lines and results for every UFC card. No rules yet. Just collecting the data so any future rule has something honest to be graded against.

Where to watch: the race

Nothing here is a pick. We don't know yet if we have an edge. If we find one, you'll hear it here first.
