Update for the YREC Code October 11 2026

Hello all! The development team has been hard at work, and we have pushed an update to the YREC code to the main branch.

The main change for users is that we have enabled a treatment for rotationally induced mixing that is valid for stars above the Kraft break. This version, similar to the original YREC and MESA versions, replaces the partial implementation of the Maeder & Zahn (1998)option. To use it, set two toggles: IES = 2 and IMU = 3; we recommend FC = 0.03. These are user inputs that were present but not documented in the code. We have added sample cases for rotation, above and below the Kraft break, to the test suite.

I have been working on consolidating and removing Fortran common blocks, and we anticipate a second release (shortly) where they are replaced by Fortran 90 modules completely. This will be transparent to users, but it will make modifying the code substantially easier.

Another change is the output for the misnamed “short” file. It contained a partial listing of the user inputs; this has been replaced by a full listing, including variables modified by other namelist options. Please raise issues on the Github or email me ([email protected]) if you see any issues.
