A Walk with Deacon
At the threshold's edge, a small lantern is lit, carried by a little black watch

It feels like time for a walk.
A walk with Deacon.
He’s our resident punk monk, gatekeeper, and wayhouse porter. And he’s just very much himself: a thoroughly Scottish Scottie dog born in Texas; world traveler, now living in Spain. He has an older but smaller sister, Bella, a feisty chihuahua in her own right.
Deacon’s radar ears perk up as soon as I think about getting out of the house, before I even say anything or otherwise indicate preparedness for this much-anticipated walk.
Mind you, the sweltering summer sun in Southern Spain is not to be taken for granted. The proper timing and backpack with essentials are required.
And here’s where you come in:
We’d love to invite you on our walk.
Perhaps one day in person in a gathering of pilgrims from around the world, but for now, you are warmly invited to share in an accompanied time of witnessing and discernment for your own journey.
If you find yourself at a crossroads: at the edge of something shifting—perhaps a move, as we are preparing for ourselves, or perhaps it’s more of a different season in your life—whatever that edge may be, sometimes you can see more clearly when companioned.
And this is where Deacon comes in: with his bounding enthusiasm for discovering the next trail, or chasing the waves, and the seriousness of his sentry duty in his surroundings, we will go on a walk and share:
what is being noticed
what is being named
what may need to be released (like the goatheads that inevitably get stuck in his paws).
And we return always to the home that matters most—that which is within, with each other, and with the divine creator of us all.
Stay tuned for A Walk with Deacon series, which will be published in my Substack, The Curious Lives of Houses:

For the first few thresholds and pilgrims, we would like to extend a personal accompaniment experience: as I walk with Deacon, I reflect back to you what we discern and receive about your personal crossroad.
If this interests you just respond to this message, and I’ll personally reach out to start our conversation.
Just a little note: our family is now in another season of a move between worlds: from one place to another.
We are staying in Spain (so excited to have our visas renewed), but the next place is very temporary, and we are at the threshold yet again of trusting what comes next, and staying open to where we are called. If you find yourself in a similar place, come explore these themes and more. See you on the other side.
