Picmal v1.0.6 is out — Easier updates, bug fixes, and next steps

Hi there,

I hope everything is going well.

It’s been over a month since the last update, but don’t worry – I haven’t abandoned the project at all. In fact, it’s more alive than ever.

Why has it taken so long to release a new update?

  • The main reason is that I’ve been waiting for Apple to complete the process of switching my account from personal to business. Unfortunately, that prevented me from publishing new versions of the app.

  • On top of that, about a week ago, a user reported a bug affecting several conversions (specifically EPS, AI, and WebP). Fixing this issue took some time, but I believe it’s resolved now. If you still experience this or any other format issues, please let me know – there’s always room for improvement.

  • As a result of this bug, I’ve implemented an error-reporting system to help me be more proactive in fixing issues as they happen. Don’t worry – it does not collect any personal data or device information. It’s only used to analyze errors and improve stability.

Updating the app is now easier

Previously, updating was inconvenient – you had to go to Gumroad, download the new version, and wait for email notifications (which often ended up in spam). I wasn’t happy with that experience, so now you can update directly from the app by clicking “Check for Updates.”

In the near future, you’ll also be able to install and update Picmal via Homebrew. I still need to complete one more step before that becomes available.

What’s coming next?

  • I’m currently working on a licensing system so I no longer have to rely on Gumroad for selling the app. This won’t affect you – once it’s ready, you’ll receive your license via email to keep using Picmal as usual.

  • One of the most requested features is the ability to set default conversions. For example, always convert PNG to WebP by default. That’s the next big feature I’ll be working on this, along with adding the ability to select multiple images and change the output format all at once instead of one by one.

To download this version of Picmal, just go to Gumroad as usual and you'll see version 1.0.6 available. From here, you won't have to go back to Gumroad and can update it directly from the app.

If there’s something you’d love to see in Picmal, you can share your ideas here or send me an email to support@picmal.app, and I’ll make sure to consider them for future updates.

Thank you for your support,
Alberto
