Opportunity: Part-Time Music Teacher

Hi folks,
I’m just sharing this job ad I’ve put out. If you know anyone who is interested, please do pass along!
Opportunity: Part-Time Music Teacher
Location: At home or a dedicated music studio (TBC)
Hours: Part-time
Contract: Self-employed
This role is offered on a self-employed basis and represents an opportunity for ongoing collaboration with Pianism, rather than a guaranteed contract of employment.
Teaching work is offered subject to availability and suitability, with the aim of building a positive, long-term working relationship.
I’m principally looking for piano and guitar teachers, but I am open to other possibilities such as violin, singing, harp, etc.
My long term goal is to eventually collaborate with more music teachers with a view to setting up a local co-operative that exists outside the schools network but provides a much better service than the many mixed reviews and complaints I’ve been told about businesses such as RockSteady, Totally Rad, etc.

The Role
I’ve been teaching music privately since moving to Hastings for 2-3 years and have built up a strong reputation and a substantial waiting list. I’m now looking for an enthusiastic, philosophically-aligned, and committed music teacher to deliver lessons under the umbrella of the wider business.
You will teach mostly individual lessons, working with students ranging from completely beginners (7+) to more experienced musicians, and help inspire with engaging and thoughtful teaching.
To understand the ethos behind this role, please read my Teaching Philosophy and Core Principles:

Responsibilities
+ Deliver 1-2-1 music lessons that develop musical understanding, creativity, and technical skill.
+ Create lessons that are not only educational, but also relaxed, enjoyable, and restorative: a genuine respite from everyday stresses.
+ Work collaboratively with me to help facilitate occasional group workshops, primarily aimed at younger students.
+ Adapt teaching approaches to suit a wide range of ages, abilities, learning styles, and musical interests.
+ Inspire and motivate students, fostering confidence, independence, and curiosity.
+ Maintain clear, professional, and friendly communication with students and parents.
+ Uphold safeguarding responsibilities and ensure the welfare of all students.
+ Bring an empathetic, respectful, and humanistic attitude to teaching and life more broadly.
—
About You
+ An excellent pianist/guitarist/etc. with strong musicianship and a deep understanding of your instrument and repertoire.
+ Teaching experience is essential, though it does not need to be extensive.
+ A recognised music diploma or degree is desirable but not essential — musical insight, empathy, and integrity matter far more.
+ Passionate about people first, then music education, and genuinely invested in students’ musical development.
+ Comfortable teaching across a wide range of genres, well beyond narrow stylistic boundaries.
+ Confident using email, SMS, and web-based platforms.
+ Strong general literacy, with the ability to write clear lesson notes or plans when needed.
+ Reliable, organised, and genuinely enthusiastic about teaching.
+ DBS checked (or willing to obtain one).

What I Can Offer
While retaining some of the freedom of solo teaching, teachers working in collaboration means you’ll benefit from:
+ A ready waiting list of students to teach on an immediate basis.
+ Access to a large library of sheet music and digital teaching resources, including subscriptions to professional music societies and streaming services.
+ A single, dedicated, furnished teaching space — no commuting between multiple homes or schools.
+ Collaboration with an established music education business with a strong reputation, clear values, and effective word-of-mouth and marketing.
+ A flexible, part-time schedule, run largely on your terms, with significant autonomy over teaching approach and repertoire.
+ Access to a studio management platform, with a built-up database, CRM, digital resources, auto-invoicing, and much else.
+ The chance to closely share ideas, support and advice with another like-minded music teacher.
+ Further mentoring/training for less experienced teachers.
If you are interested and would like to connect further, please email me at will@pianism.co.uk with an expression of interest and a brief outline of your experience and interests.
Please note: if you simply need the money or additional work, and don't genuinely care about teaching, this role will not be a good fit.
Thanks all!
Will
