Spring 2026 update

A chairde,

Spring is (finally) here, and I’m happy to be keeping busy with lots of different things.

Agility award activities

Last summer I was fortunate to be awarded an Agility Award from Arts Council Ireland. With it, I have been receiving mentorship from Inma Pavon, David Lacey, and Karen Power. They are helping me work on my improvisation practice through bodily awareness, focussed playing, and environmental listening and recording. It’s really enriching to be putting my practice under the microscope and refining it.

Playing

I’m happy to be doing lots of playing with other people at the moment. Highlights recently include a trio set at Kirkos (Dublin) with Aonghus McEvoy and Sharon Phelan; a session with cellist Eimear Reidy; sonic conversations with artist Anthony Kelly (as part of his residency at The Guesthouse), and a group show with Anthony, Joseph Young, Mick O’Shea, and Irene Murphy.

Simon Whetham visits Ireland

In May, sound artist Simon Whetham will be in Ireland for a residency at Interface Inagh. Whilst here, he’s playing some shows. We play two solo sets at Plugd Records (Cork) on Sunday 24th May, and at Ardvoltas (Ballisodare, Co. Sligo) on Monday 25th. Simon will also play at Kirkos (Dublin) on Saturday 9th May.

On Wednesday 20th May, éist will air a special episode of my show seomra folamh. I will chat with Simon about his work and practice, and what we can expect from his performances.

Simon is a really fascinating artist. Don’t miss him playing in Ireland for the first time!

Maureen’s 2025 - release

In June last year I played a show at Maureen’s here in Cork. The recording came out great, so later this year I plan to release a CD of the performance on wheat flats. Here’s a short clip.

album with Kelly/Murphy/O’Shea

In December 2024, Anthony Kelly, Irene Murphy, Mick' O’Shea, and myself, recorded some improvised sounds. I’ve slowly been mixing some edits of these recordings, and in the near future they will be released on Farpoint Recordings.

Konkret, my tape with Matthijs Kouw, is down to the last few copies! Recorded in 2022 and constructed between 2023 and 2025, this second tape of ours is something I am very proud of.

I also have copies of No Things but Nameless Things, my tape with Jason Kahn. Recorded during our short tour of Ireland in November 2024, the album is a collection of edits from our shows in Cork and Limerick.

You can listen to, and purchase, both releases from the wheat flats Bandcamp page.
