Pharma & Biotech Jobs Weekly Roundup - May 5, 2025

We added 5 new companies to our tracking roster last week:

  • Caribou Biosciences
  • Inceptive
  • Insitro
  • Johnson and Johnson
  • Velsera

This group includes pharma giant Johnson & Johnson, but the spotlight is on emerging companies at the intersection of biotech and technology. Caribou is advancing CRISPR-based genome editing. Insitro and Inceptive are applying machine learning to drug discovery, with Insitro focusing on predictive biology models and Inceptive targeting RNA-based therapeutics. Velsera describes itself as a health tech company working to enable precision medicine. These additions expand our coverage of the growing techbio sector, where biotechnology and computational approaches are increasingly integrated. The trend is gaining momentum among investors and founders, and we’ll be tracking how it plays out in hiring and compensation data.

Last Week's Key Findings

New addition Johnson and Johnson led hiring last week with 278 new postings, followed by Medtronic with 260 and Abbott with 238.

Typical big hiring companies aside, we noticed a few big jumps in our other companies, including Regeneron and Caris.

plot of changes in company job postings last week. led by Regeneron and Caris

Regeneron and Caris Life Science showed the biggest increase over their 8 week averages, at 150% (average 4 jobs/week, posted 10 last week) and 126% (average 19 jobs/week posted 43 last week) respectively. Caris in particular appears focused on building out their business and commercialization efforts, with many VP and Director-level positions focused on market access and regional sales.

Regeneron is commercial and communication focused recently. A lot of positions for medical science liaison/medical communication style roles. In fact, we're noticing a lot of communications roles, which is our growing sector this week!

Growing Sector

Medical Affairs showed the strongest growth last week (40.0%, 91 new jobs). This trend was led by BMS, which posted 43 Medical Affairs jobs (typical week is 10), followed by AbbVie and J&J.

We consider any job that focuses on scientific or medical communication as medical affairs. These roles typically require advanced degrees, flexible travel schedules, and strong writing skills. This surge suggests increased demand for field-facing scientific roles, possibly tied to upcoming launches or expanded indications. We’ll be watching to see if this spike at BMS is a one-off event or an early signal of broader hiring momentum in medical affairs across the industry.

Thanks for reading this week!
