Learn by doing.
I’m a consummate reader. Books are like seeds of ideas. The next step is to figure out what to do with the seeds. Learn by doing. Actions make all things grow. As always, thanks for taking the time to read CreativeBoost. I’m glad you’re here!

Top story…
“But I just don’t understand Google+”
I hear that a lot these days. It’s a fair point. Everyone’s busy already. And who has time for yet another social media distraction?
But hear me out.
Those of you who received the previous issue of CreativeBoost already know this, but it’s worth repeating.
Like it or not, Google+ suddenly matters a lot. Because Google now uses the content you add there as part of [11]determining your ranking in their search results. Links: 11. http://www.seomoz.org/blog/why-every-marketer-now-needs-a-google-strategy
Since this is something all of us who are in the people business have to take seriously, it’s a good idea to figure out how to make best use of this platform.
Chris Brogan launched a [12]book about this recently. It’s a great read and a start for businesses who want to get the basics. Links: 12. http://www.chrisbrogan.com/gplusbook
But then what’s the next step? How do you learn what’s working right now?
I’m more of a learn-by-doing kind of guy. Maybe you are, too.
The great thing about G+ is that everyone and everything is new.
We’re all still figuring out what it is and how we can use it.
I’m glad to share what I know and what I’m learning from others.
So here’s what I am doing.
When I see smart ways of using G+, I share it first with a very exclusive circle on Google+.
[13]G+UI call it G+U. It’s very new. And free. Links: 13. https://plus.google.com/107549428896551470738/posts
One of the great benefits of being a CreativeBoost reader is that you get tips and updates from me first.
This is your chance to join that G+U circle.
The G+U circle is about two-way learning. You can share back with the rest of that circle exclusively, or with everyone on G+.
That’s up to you.
I simply want to make it easier to share the best of what we all can do on this platform.
Here’s what you do.
1) Login to Google+ and add me to any G+ circle (if you haven’t done so already). 2) Send me a private message (or email), and say you want to be part of the G+U circle. I’ll add you. 3) There is no step 3. ____________
Tell me where it hurts
[14]Reply to this email directly (yup, it goes directly to me). Tell me one thing that you’re struggling with right now in your work. Even if it’s a minor thing.

Follow the money New research by a top authority on online trends says that methods of making money from blogs are changing. According to their survey of bloggers, more people now are selling a product, and more are doing paid reviews of products. Fewer are using ad networks. The most common money-making strategy (35%) was affiliate marketing. Ask a writer
Can I start a sentence with “but”? Sure you can. You were likely discouraged from doing this in elementary school by teachers who first needed to show young students how to construct sentences properly. Fact: there is no rule. Here’s what Fowler’s Modern English Usage says: “the widespread belief that ‘But’ should not be used at the beginning of a sentence seems to be unshakeable. Yet it has no foundation.” Writing for online audiences has to be conversational. People start sentences with “but” all the time. Just don’t over-do it. Have a question or tip? [8]Submit it here.
