[Petit Fours #429] On impact, zines, and activity theory

Hi, everyone! Here comes one more set of Petit Fours recommendations, before I check out for some much-needed holiday until early May:

#1 Here’s a great write-up about Lakshmi Murthy, one of the amazing experts who’ll be joining us in Stockholm for the FemTech and Feminist Tech focus period in May: She Asked Her Grandma A Simple Question About Periods & It Changed Lakhs of Lives

#2 For another inspiring feature, check out Susanne Bødker’s interview on People of ACM.

#3 In addition to ours on data/work, there’ll be many more workshops at the Aarhus decennial conference. Among them, let me point you to The Multiple Impacts of “Computing [in] Crisis”: Re-centering the Conversation “Paving the way for the next decade of research in computing, the workshop aims to: 1) map out conceptual, empirical, and technological examples that illustrate different instances of what impact can entail, 2) define a nuanced vocabulary to talk about impact, 3) discuss participatory methods, design materials, and strategies that can enable mutually beneficial collaborations, 4) outline the political dynamics, power relations, ethical issues, interest, or historical reasons that can shape how impact is defined, 5) envision ideas for future research collaborations and dissemination beyond the time frame of the workshop; 6) develop long and short-term strategies to encourage collaborations and partnerships between researchers, practitioners, public and private institutions.“

#4 If I were to go to London before September, I’d want to visit this exhibition: Zines Forever! DIY Publishing and Disability Justice
