[Petit Fours #425] On transmissions, ownership, and public domain images

Hi, everyone! Here’s what I’ve got for you, en route to Norrköping for two days of workshopping on autonomy, control, and methodological experimentation:

#1 From the large pile of books I missed when they first came out in the early parts of the pandemic, I’ve now stumbled upon (and requested from our library) Transmissions: Critical Tactics for Making and Communicating Research, edited by Kat Jungnickel. The premise is very promising: “Researchers rethink tactics for inventing and disseminating research, examining the use of such unconventional forms as poetry, performance, catalogs, interactive machines, costume, and digital platforms.“

#2 For reflections and actions around alternative social media, you might enjoy this Tech Policy Press podcast episode: Rudy Fraser on Building Blacksky and the Future of Middleware

#3 Always on the lookout for good images that are free to use? Check out Public Domain Image Archive: “Explore our hand-picked collection of 10,046 out-of-copyright works, free for all to browse, download, and reuse. This is a living database with new images added every week.“

#4 Here’s one for those who are thinking about ownership, subscription models, and discourses around them (in Finnish): Omistamisen jälkeen – miksi omistamisesta tuli taakka ja millaista on omistuksenjälkeinen elämä?
