[Petit Fours #412] On sleep, social media, and living in the broken world
Hi, all! We’ve made it to December – just a few weeks now until the holidays. Here’s what I’ve got for you today:
#1 My longing for community is insignificant in the grand scheme of things but I do miss the good parts of what social media used to be like. If you’d like to connect, I’m softly experimenting with Bluesky (@airilampinen.bsky.social), Mastodon (airi_@hci.social), and, the least sticky of them all, LinkedIn.
#2 Next week, on December 13, Kasper Karlgren will defend his PhD thesis, entitled Tracking and Hacking Sleep: Designing for lived experience through self-tracking, at our department.
#3 For an alternative piece of programming, the research seminar Living in the Broken World: Fostering Repair, Maintenance, and Care will take place at Tampere University on December 12-13. This looks wonderful!
#4 Here’s Stefan Norrthon talking about interspecies communication (in Swedish): Vad säger djuren egentligen? You can also read about his research: Språkforskaren som vill förstå djurens språk.
