[Petit Fours #408] On care, relational labor, and Nordic perspectives
Hi, everyone! Here’s what I’ve got for you this week, as I’m preparing for travel to CSCW 2024:
#1 We have a small Exhibit X piece out in the Interactions magazine on our Nordic Perspectives on Algorithmic Systems Card Box. I’ve been delighted to keep hearing stories of people finding use for the cards we created!
#2 I had massive FOMO for missing AoIR 2024, but for a bit of comfort, I did get to re-read the introductory chapter to Nancy Baym’s brilliant Playing to The Crowd. Such a good book!
#3 Here’s a little write-up from our WASP-HS research project: What Human Experiences Are Missing in the Design Process Behind AI?
#4 I enjoyed this short text on how Care Doesn’t Scale: “If your goal is to educate the world, you can look for ways to educate thousands or millions. If you want to inspire the world, the billions await. But if your goal is to care for the world, and in a given moment you’re deeply caring for one person, you’re doing the best it’s possible to do.“
