[Petit Fours #404] On care robots, platforms, and a ghost in the throat
Hi, all! Here’s what I’ve got for you today:
#1 In exciting news, CSCW 2025 is now confirmed to take place in Bergen, Norway. This is the first time ever the conference comes to Europe! (Paper deadline coming up on October 29, 2024.)
#2 Check out this TEDx talk on Designing Care Robots without the ‘Ick’ Factor by my fabulous colleague Madeline Balaam.
#3 There’s a new journal in town: “Platforms & Society hosts critical social science and humanities research on platforms and platformization, examining their impacts on and embeddedness in economies, cultures, and institutions around the world.” For more details on what to expect, here’s the inaugural editorial.
#4 I’m nearing the end of Doireann Ní Ghríofa’s excellent book A Ghost in the Throat. It’s one of the books that got recommended to me before the summer, and I’m now happy to recommend it further to you all. "This is a female text."
