[Petit Fours #396] On the work of AI, time banking, and the forgotten protocol
Hi, all! Here’s what I’d like to share with you today, as I begin my return to work after the summer break:
#1 We are organising a one-day workshop at CSCW 2024 on Mapping Human Labour in the AI Pipeline that will take place on November 9, in San Jose, Costa Rica. If you’re interested in studies of the different forms of labours that make up AI and algorithmic systems, we invite you to join our workshop! For further details, workshop themes, and how to submit, take a look at our website. (We have a first deadline already on August 20 to support those who may need an early decision to plan conference attendance. The deadline for the second round of submissions is September 20.)
#2 For those interested in peer-to-peer exchange, here’s a recent Freakonomics podcast episode on time banking. (It’s not a great surprise that much of it resonates with the ideas I wrote about in The Trouble With Sharing.)
#3 It’s not always so easy to feel good about the internet these days, but some of the good stuff is still around and available: RSS: The forgotten protocol that still matters
#4 If you, too, are about to take a look at your plans for the year in the coming weeks, then this printable calendar might come in handy: “If you print this page, you’ll get a nifty calendar that displays all of the year’s dates on a single page. It will automatically fit on a single sheet of paper of any size.”
