[Petit Fours #391] On AI, qualitative research, and public trust
Hi, all! Inspired by last week’s discussions with Mary L. Gray, Alex Taylor, and my local colleagues, here’s what I’ve got for you today:
#1 The Intersection of AI & Qualitative Research is an hour-long conversation between Prayag Narula and Mary. Very much worth a listen!
#2 Mary also has a new piece out in Issues of Science and Technology. A Human Rights Framework for AI Research Worthy of Public Trust is not a long read, yet it’ll make you think.
#3 For another compact and good read, check out Taking Apart to Build Back Up by David A. Shamma whose concluding advice very much resonates with my own experiences: “Finding a path to research one’s interests and passions is a necessary part of building a career. Look to those who inspire you; find your mentors, mentor others; work with reliable, inspirational collaborators; and focus on the issues you care about. For me, openly sharing knowledge and building the scientific community is vital. Share your research, volunteer to review, and collaborate with those around you.“
#4 Last but not least, I want to point Finnish speakers to this openly available online course on the digitalizing society. I was happy to get to contribute with some thoughts around platform economies and the trouble with sharing: Kaikille avoin verkkokurssi digitaalisesta yhteiskunnasta.
