New Markdown Editor
I'm happy to announce the new Markdown editor for Indie Courses. It is inspired by GitHub's editor so it should feel familiar and it supports GitHub-flavored Markdown, just as you'd expect. You can use it to write your course and lesson descriptions and lesson comments.
The new editor allows Indie Courses to offer reliable code syntax highlighting in over 50 languages. All previous editors struggled with this unfortunately, which is why I decided to switch to a Markdown-only editor.
You don't have to migrate your old descriptions and comments to the new Markdown format. I've done it for you (it only took a few hours of monkey-work and my sanity)
A new direction
I've struggled a bit with how to position Indie Courses against the incumbents because it felt like all I have to offer are newer and cooler features. However, the golden rule for bootstrapping is to niche down and to make your product great for one particular user group first.
Replacing the editor helped me to find that user group: Technical Content Creators.
I realized that I can't create the best video course platform for everybody, but can create the best video course platform for software engineers and anybody who creates technical content.
This user group has unique needs like code syntax highlighting, Mermaid.js support, GitHub integrations, etc.
That's the user group that I understand best and for which I can create features that are unique on the market. So, that's what I'll be doing :)
If you have any feature requests or suggestions, please don't hesitate to contact me. Either reply directly to this email or email me at info@indiecourses.com.
Until next time!
