🌱✌️Planner updates and new blog post

Hey Permapeople,

It is still not warm here! Besides two days where it was really warm, we are still hovering below 20°C / 68°F. I need to be patient since the plants are growing not that fast, but I have 90% planted outside already and the rest will go out soon too. If you need a cucumber, chili or tomato plantling and are in the Berlin area, I am happy to give away some!

We started using Instagram to share our work in our gardens in Bremen/Berlin/Kelowna. If you want to have more frequent and detailed updates, follow us there!

Planner Updates

Wow, these were great two weeks since the planner release! A lot of you tried it out and sent feedback and we got excited to put more work into it to make it more useful.

Drag & Drop

Duh, that was a no-brainer. You can now drag&drop plants across the grid for simpler designing and moving around plants.

Grid Size

In the settings of the planner, you can now change the default grid size of 16 by 16 cells to anything you want.

Companion / Antagonist markers

One of the cool things about the planner is, that it gets fed directly from the plant database. If you place two plants next to each other, which have a companion relationship in the database, it will be indicated accordingly. The same goes for antagonists. So no bean/onion combination no-no anymore!

If you can spend a bit of time on some plant profiles and add some data for the companions/antagonists to it, that would help everyone else using the planner. Thanks!

Blog post: Designing a polyculture

The feedback we got was to post more basic information and how-to's in the blog to get you going with regenerative principles in the garden. Simon wrote a great blog post on how to use polycultures in your garden as a form of maximizing the output of the space you have.

Updates & Info

What to do now in the growing season

  • Plant everything outside as soon as the weather allows it
  • Reseed things which did not sprout
  • Reseed things you already harvested like radishes, spinach, early lettuce
  • Start planning your irrigation strategies for the hot season
  • Start planning your sun protection strategies
  • Start thinking about succession planting for your beds. (Anyone has good ideas for what to plant after garlic? :) )

What to do if the season ends or you are in a tropical zone

  • We are still looking for people to help us here. If you live in a tropical area or have info on what to do when, please reach out.
Please reach out with any questions. I am reading and answering every mail.

Happy planning 🌱✌️,
Ben
