🌱✌️Open Data Day and pruning apple trees
Hey Permapeople,
Berlin finally got some snow for the last week. While the kids enjoy the snow, I plan the next season and can't wait to get started again. I'll get the chili seeds started indoors soon and I am super excited. Meanwhile, we are also trying to add more useful data to the database to help to get the timing right for all the plants. Feel free to add germination times and temperatures, days to maturity and propagation timings!
Open Data Day 2021
The plant database of Permapeople wouldn't be possible without open data. We use a lot of open data to improve our database and give it back through our Creative Commons License. We believe that everyone profits the most from everyone else contributing if the knowledge is shared freely.
We are excited to let you know that we will host an event on how we use open data for plant data and help get more people into growing useful plants for the Open Knowledge Foundation. While this might sound very technical, you will have the chance to
- Get to know the idea behind Permapeople
- What we plan for the future
- How we use open plant data and why it is essential to do so
- Ask any questions you might have on Permapeople, related to the open data or not
Or maybe you just want to see who is behind the project and see our faces :)
The event will happen virtually over Zoom on March 6, 2021 - 8 pm CET / 2 pm EST / 11 am PDT.

Pruning fruit trees
While I still need to wait for my stone fruit trees (Cherry, Peach) to be pruned, Tina wrote a great blog post on pruning pomaceous fruit trees like apples and pears. You can find it here. I can't wait to apply this to my trees as soon as it gets closer to spring.
