🌱✌️New people and new features
Hey Permapeople,
I almost managed to send this update within a month after the last. I am really trying to get back to more regular sending, because I like your responses. Keep them coming! 💌
One thing I am doing currently is trying to find the perfect potato to make my own fries and chips/crisps. I heard about Russet and a few others, but if you have any tips, please send them my way. 🥔🥔🥔
This month, we have tons of news, so let’s get going.
Welcome, Cat!
As you might remember, in our last newsletter, we were looking for a marketing focused co-founder. Luckily, we found one! Her name is Cat Cortes and she is awesome. Cat is with us for quite some time now and now stepped up to take over everything communication-wise. First thing I learned is that marketing is just commercially focused part of communication. Duh! Now I am already smarter and Simon and me are super excited to work with her. She is based in Singapore and currently plans her growing experiments. Please follow her on Twitter!
Plant and seed match notification
As you may know, we have different types of lists which you can use to organize plants for your planting experiments. Two types are lists of plants or seeds you have and plants or seed you want. From now on, you should get an email once in a while telling you if another user has plants or seeds in their collection, which you are looking for. No more scanning lists and spreadsheets of your fellow seed swappers 🙂. Tell your friends to create a want/have list if they want to get involved!
So best is to get your collections and want lists up to date and with a bit luck another gardener has the seeds you are looking for.
Our goal is to make gardening more accessible to everyone and a huge part of it is finding good quality plants or seeds easily, and in the best case saved by fellow gardeners.
This brings me to our next feature:
Improved messaging
We figured that there could be more people connecting inside Permapeople so we improved our user messaging.
First, you can now see and reply to all your messages (including your marketplace orders) here: https://permapeople.org/conversations/ This makes it more easy and trackable in case your spam filter ate that last email from a conversation.
Second, you can now message users directly. Previously you had to order from another user to get in contact with them. From now on you can send messages about anything and it will be the same secure and anonymous conversation as it was before. So if you have a question about a list, item or edit a user made, you can reach out to them by clicking their name, get to their profile and click “Send message”. Or feel free to message Cat, Simon or me! 🙂

Growing modern landraces
One of our team members is taking Dr. James White's How Microbes Help Plants Adapt to Local Conditions course and has been loving it. This course is for anybody looking to better adapt their seeds and food growing efforts to their own bioregion. Since we're such big fans of one of the course creators (Joseph Lofthouse) and sharing is caring — we reached out and they offered our community a 25% discount. Just use the code permapeople
when you sign up!
(Note: We do not get anything out of it or get paid or whatever, this is just us promoting projects we think are awesome. If you have anything we can help promote, let us know!)
