🌱✌️New functions and design

Hey Permaperson,

Summer has passed on the northern hemisphere. That was a quick one. I hope you were busy in the garden and pulled (and hopefully still pulling) some nice yields. The weather here in Berlin was weird again, very long dry periods and some rain, now the autumn is super wet. I am still waiting for a bit more dry weather so I can collect walnuts.

As always, we were quiet but busy and added a lot of new features to the website. Please read on to see all the exciting changes!

Adopt a plant

Ever thought about adopting a plant and becoming the authoritative expert for it? Now you can! While it might seem like a significant commitment, you can work on it gradually. The concept is to adopt your favorite plant, contribute to and manage its profile. You'll receive notifications if someone else makes changes, allowing you to double-check or verify the data additions as needed. If you're passionate about an entire genus, you can adopt multiple plants. Rest assured, you'll receive full credit on your profile!

Planner updates

The most requested feature has been built: you can now draw additional structures in your plans! With the new update, you can draw polygons to capture details of houses, garden beds, and other elements. When placing a plant with the width trait, we'll set an accurate default size. You can also navigate around your garden canvas by holding [space] at any time. Additionally the whole planner became faster and more efficient — all thanks to Han! Please let us know how you like it and let us know.

New design

We added a new landing page and fresh colors across the site, just in time for a new season of Permapeople. This includes some work put into better organization of the plant profile sidebar to make finding what you’re looking for a lot faster! See it in action on the profile of the watermelon.

Permapeople Discord

We initiated this as an experiment, and it appears to be successful. Although our community is modest in size and not active every day, the roughly 60 Permapeople in there are always helpful and friendly when you have anything to discuss, ask, or share. Additionally all your garden journals will be mirrored there too. If you're seeking a place to connect with fellow food gardeners, feel free to join! We hope to see you there.
Join our Discord

As always, we read and respond to every email, so please don't hesitate to reach out with any questions or feedback you may have.

Happy harvesting 🌱✌️,

Ben and the Permapeople team
