🌱✌️It’s finally here 🤩 add varieties!

Hey Permapeople,

I’d say we’ve almost made it through winter on the northern hemisphere. I see the Thyme, Oregano, green mint and Tarragon starting to grow small but bright green and fresh looking leaves and shoots. This weekend I plan to get some seeds started indoors and maybe a few outdoors too because IT IS TIME NOW! 🙂

Again, I’ve waited too long to write you again, so let’s get right into it!

New feature: Varieties

Something we were dreaming about for quite some time now, was how to add varieties and cultivars to the plant database. It’s finally here! Do a quick search for your favorite plant, scroll down the profile a bit and find all the varieties of a species. Then you can click on one and an awesome profile page for the variety appears! A variety inherits all data from its species but you can overwrite everything for a variety too. You can also use varieties the same way as you did with species: look them up in the main search bar, add them to lists, sell them in the marketplace, use them in the garden planner or add them to a journal entry. Try it out and if your favorite variety is not yet there, just click “Add variety” on a species profile and add it with just a few clicks and keystrokes. Simon put together a great twitter thread which explains it, please click here to see it.

Growing Avocado from seed

Ben started this project super spontaneously with his son without thinking much but it turned out to be a success so far. While it takes a couple of years to get fruit and it will not be the same fruit that they ate (as all stone fruits, avocados are not true to seed but we are in it for the fun, right?) we are very excited. A few people asked him how he did it, so we’ve put everything which he did in a blog post.
