Perfect Sentences

She wouldn't give you the time of day if she had two watches.

The Man I Love, dir. Raoul Walsh (link is to trailer)

Seen on one of those old movie clip Instagram accounts. I have no idea if the movie is any good, but I'm a real sucker for fast-talking, chain-smoking old-timey dialogue full of zingers like this. Also, this still from the trailer seems like a meme in the making:

A still from a 1947 trailer for "The Man I Love"--it's from a sequence listing songs in the film. The words "Why was I born" in a real Jazz Age-y font appears at a tilt in foreground with a black and white image of a jazz band in the background

Things in themselves have no power to extort a verdict from you.

The Meditations, Marcus Aurelius

Yeah yeah, it's from that meme you've probably seen before about logging off. Still, a great sentence.

The film looks like a fun time for fans of eco-horror, and in particular, gator-based horror films.

"Hungry Gators Target Inmates and Guards in The Flood Trailer", Jeremy Dick for MovieWeb

I'm enjoying imagining someone who will not go see a horror movie unless there will be alligators. Just absolutely no, I am a gator-based horror film aficionado! This movie looks pretty dumb but it's funny that it's being framed here as "eco-horror" like this is smart commentary on climate change and the prison-industrial complex rather than a movie about alligators chasing people.

She was acutely aware of the dynamics of every situation.

"Tina Turner remembered by Mad Max director George Miller", George Miller as told to Sian Cain, The Guardian

Some of the perfection comes from context, from the fact this is a description of Tina Turner, from the fact even watching Tina Turner let loose in a performance it's apparent she remained acutely aware of the dynamics of every situation.
