PDX Digital Corps Weekly Ship – April 25, 2025
Happy one month anniversary to us!
Things are a little quiet, because we’re actually very heads down. Our three projects — Families for Safe Streets, Built Oregon & Cape Perpeuta Collective are all in various forms of post-scoping and team organization. Turns out, even for a short-term sprint, you still have to do the work to get things where you want them if it’s going to go well.
That also includes us finally building out our operations layer in real-time, things like handbooks for volunteers, answering internal questions around our “steering” team’s role and how to resolve issues that might arise. It’s been fun and interesting to learn these lessons on the fly.
This week was fun in our steering standup on Tuesdays, where it kind of occurred to us “hey this a real thing,” as more people join in to grab ways to help. Folks are heads down working on all matter of things including accessibility guides, and looking for other ways to contribute.
We don’t have an update on our next IRL event yet, but we’re targeting a Wednesday sometime in May, so stay tuned for those details in our next newsletter.
Are you in our Discord yet? That’s where all the action is! That invite will get you in.
Also one thing we solidifed is in early June some kind of “retro” style event where we recap what we’ve been up for those weeks and assessing our roadmap for sunsetting this project. Maybe that means new people joining our steering group via baton pass, perhaps it means slowly working down whatever work we have going.
We’re still open to new projects, our work isn’t just builds and delivery, we’ve got a project we’re scoping locally that might just be helping a non-profit write an RFP for a website redesign and helping them vet vendors. There’s a lot of range to the work we can do as volunteers!
That’s the scoop for now. We thank you for all your support, encouragment and signal boosting this project so far!
