Two fast Python type checkers coming this year

Meta has announced Pyrefly, a new static type checker built in Rust to deliver fast performance and scalability for large Python codebases.

We also have more information on Astral’s type checker ty, formerly known as Red Knot and pronounced tee-why. Charlie Marsh and Carl Meyer went on the Talk Python podcast to share more about their tool coming later this year.

Python tooling is really good now. The biggest challenge isn’t having good tools, it’s having too many good tools and having to chose between them. The Python Developer Tooling Handbook aims to help you make those choices. Let me know if there more ways it can do that.
