Welcome to your weekly review of Привет, Русский! (April 24–30, 2026). This week we jumped between погода (weather) and animals — two topics Russians love to talk about! You learned tons of practical vocabulary and even picked up natural phrases like “Идёт сильный дождь” and “У меня есть кошка.”

2. Grammar Patterns

This week we focused on simple weather expressions and basic descriptions.

• Weather in Russian often uses short adverbs: тепло = it’s warm, холодно = it’s cold.
  Example: На улице тепло. / Зимой очень холодно.

• “Идёт” + weather = “it is [raining/snowing]”
  Example: Идёт сильный дождь. (Heavy rain is falling.)

• Simple “I have…” structure with animals:
  У меня есть кошка. (I have a cat.)
  В лесу живёт медведь. (A bear lives in the forest.)

These patterns let you start speaking in full sentences right away!

3. Culture Corner Recap

We discovered that the медведь (bear) is much more than an animal in Russia — it’s a national symbol of strength and appears in countless fairy tales (сказки). We also learned that Russians talk about the weather all the time because the climate can swing from brutally cold winters (снег and холодно) to bright summers (солнце and тепло). Even small talk often starts with “Какая сегодня погода?”

“Weather & Wildlife Reporter” Mission 📰

This weekend, look out the window (or go for a short walk) and say three sentences in Russian about the weather using this week’s words. Then name your favorite animal in Russian and say one thing about it.

Example:
“Сегодня солнце светит. Небо в облаках. Мне нравится собака потому что она дружелюбная.”

Record yourself on your phone or write it down. Bonus points if you teach a family member one word! You’ve got this!
