This Month on Party of One: Party of One Wrapped 2022
Hey Party People!
Here it is, the first ever Party of One newsletter. Thank you again for subscribing. I know receiving emails is a pain, and I promise to make this one as non-miserable as possible.
My goals for this newsletter are pretty simple: Show you what dropped this month on Party of One, give you a peek at what’s coming, a little behind the scenes goodness, and something I like wholly unrelated to the podcast. With that said, let’s kick it off.
This Month on Party of One
Absurdia with Quinn Majeski
A Powered by the Apocalypse RPG about the existential horror of suburban life… sometimes taken to its most literal levels. Here, an antique shop owner faces the greatest nightmare of all: Reality TV.
You’ll dig this one if you like: Welcome to Night Vale, The Twilight Zone, Storage Wars, Are You Afraid of the Dark?, and a ton of Party of One easter eggs.
Here We Used to Fly with Kurt Refling
A game about nostalgia, growing up, and abandoned amusement parks. Here, two old friends revisit their childhood amusement park with new perspectives… and maybe some new feelings.
You’ll dig this one if you like: Coming of Age stories, Defunctland videos, jokes about Action Park, grown-up romances, and big emotion.
Pine Shallows with Peter Eijk
A game about kids exploring their weird small town, and occasionally finding a monster or two along the way. Here, a good-hearted himbo finds a… most unusual new exhibit at the Pine Shallows Aquarium.
You’ll dig this one if you like: Gravity Falls, The Goonies, Stranger Things, gill-men.
Heart: The City Beneath with Daniel Andrlik
A haunted city beneath a high elven spire that will give you your hearts’ desire… or kill you in the process. Here, a pompous elven scholar walks into the City Beneath, says he is looking for an End to Pain…
You’ll dig this one if you like: STALKER, The Northern Reach trilogy, high-fantasy Frasier, the most Jeff Stormer ending imaginable.
What’s Coming This Month
Not Much… We’re On Vacation!
As we did last year, we’re taking off from Thanksgiving to New Year’s. Time to relax, recharge, drink some eggnog, and build our plans for next year.
The Christmas Spectacular with Brandon Leon-Gambetta
The one proper episode we’re dropping in December is our annual holiday special with Brandon. We’re recording it in the next few weeks, and I can’t wait!
Behind the Scenes
Party of One Wrapped, 2022
Because why should Spotify have all the fun?
Counting the Christmas episode, we released 39 episodes in 2022; 38 of which were brand-new games to the show, and one was a new edition of a game previously played on the show.
32 of the guests featured were first-time guests on the show; there was also one three-time guest, four two-time guests, two six-time guests, and one seven-time guest.
Four Powered by the Apocalypse games, one Belonging Outside Belonging game, one Firebrands hack, one LUMEN game, one Descended From the Queen game, and one open-source My Little Pony RPG.
28 of the 39 episodes were recorded with the game’s designer.
Zero live shows (not even a live Twitch episode); something I need to fix for next year.
Something I Liked, That You Might Too
Galaxy, the Prettiest Star
One of the cool things about having a newsletter is that, when one of your closest friends writes a DC graphic novel, you get to tell people to buy it.
I finally got to read Galaxy, the Prettiest Star recently, and it was BEAUTIFUL. Sweet, heartfelt, funny, weird, honest, very very queer. A beautiful book that absolutely shines. You will not regret picking it up.
Until next time, thank you for reading. Remember to fight the forces of fascism every single day. Remember that self-love and self-care are radical, defiant act of resistance. And as always…
Party On.
