Spring is for dancing
🌸 Spring is in full swing and I am very happy about that. Here's what's been going on and what's coming up in my world :)
Dance classes, mixers, competitions…
The queer partner dancing series I teach has another session starting May 23rd, focusing on salsa/bachata. While it's generally queer folks, it might interest allies looking to swap roles (ex. learn to lead/follow if you're normally a follower/leader when you dance).
The week before, I'm hosting a mixer at the studio that's BYOB (we'll provide snacks) and a demo dance class:
Queer mixer @ SHDA (1919 E Passyunk Ave)
Tuesday May 16th
5:30-7pm (Mixer 5:30-6:15, demo class 6:15)
BYOB/Snacks provided
If you or someone you know is interested in learning to partner dance, please send them my way! I teach 1-1 or couples; social dancers, competition, wedding dances … if it involves two people I can teach it. Especially looking for more solo students!
Since I mentioned competition, a student of mine performed fantastically this past weekend at the Keystone Invitational in York, PA. Photo by Stephen Marino.
I had three students compete with me in March at our studio's competition as well!
Following up on last newsletter, in January/February I took my trip to Argentina to dance and see the sun, and while there were some dramatic moments (my phone was stolen out of my hand! it as a lot!) it was by far a grand adventure and very difficult to adjust to not-staying out until 4 in the morning dancing (or later) when I got back to Philadelphia :)
There are a few other events coming up at the studio, such as a live band party this Friday 4/28, Cinco de Mayo/Latin night, and a singles class (and mixer!) … the studio's instagram is probably the best place to check things out, or send me a message/text.
Computers
Most of the folks on this list know me from computer-stuff and last we spoke, I was looking for something new after the FT gig I started in the fall didn't go as planned.
I've since decided to focus on dance and only do contract work as I prefer, and I'm set on this front. Sincere, sincere gratitude to everyone who reached out or shared a connection. Thank you so much!!
Other pursuits
I did publish one livecode track in January. "social contagion" is on https://beats.thewebivore.com/.
The Keepers & Friends (the unofficial gathering of alumni of Leadership Philadelphia's former Keepers program) had our first happy hour of 2023 in March. If you're in Philadelphia and would like to be on that list, you can sign up here.
Otherwise I occupied myself like an average new homeowner, with projects around the house. I worked with an interior designer friend to explore my style and it was such a neat process. Apparently I'm an "eclectic collector". I now sleep in a room painted deep teal with velvet curtains and it rules.
