Live code and more live code, and *time*
Hello friends, a bit of a weird world, isn’t it?
Music
I meant to email you about the EulerRoom Equinox stream that happened on … the equinox (March 19th was the equinox, the stream went for four days through the weekend).
I also meant to send you a recording of the performance, but as a volunteer-run event, it appears they’ve run out of steam w.r.t. uploading videos. But you can see lots of other great performances from the event on YouTube.
In the process of setting up for the Equinox stream, I learned to use OBS, and recorded a live code composition on a rainy day.
I’ve been delaying sending this email hoping to have a recording to send you all, so there’s more music news now! My music was used as the interstitial music in the Women of React conference, which you can watch online on YouTube. People said really kind things about my music and that was very nice.
Writing
In March, I wrote about about my anxiety toolkit, because I saw a lot of folks seeming to run into dealing with a world where we have a lot of unknowns, and anxiety is a natural response to that, and these are some of the tools that help me.
I’m hoping to get some more writing out next week, as I’m taking the week off to “attend” Recurse Center’s virtual alumni week and make weird things with computers.
Media
In other news, in April I was profiled on Technical.ly, on “how I work [from home]”. Adjusting to being at home rather than going to my favorite coworking space, or well, anywhere else, has been rough. And it’s okay that it’s rough! It is objectively difficult!
Time
I’ve been thinking about time for a while, and started to keep an Evernote about things I find, or ponder. And I like talking about it, because people send me interesting things, like this very informative YouTube video. What are things you think about time, or favorite things you’ve seen that approach the concept of time?
I want to make something that plays with Time as a concept, perhaps that’s a nice seed for thinking of a project while I’m off day-job work next week.
Upcoming
What’s getting me to send this email now is I’m performing a song (probably only one because I have a lightning talk size slot) in the last hour of tomorrow’s Processing Community Day. Tickets are free, but consider donating to the Processing Foundation. I don’t make my music with Processing, but the event also includes other art+code type folks.
I’m attending !!con this weekend. Tickets (basically, shirts and access to the Discord, and supporting the conf monetarily) are sold out, but you can watch the livestream.
As with any email sent now, I’ll wish you well, and hope you are healthy and finding joy in the places you can. Best to you all.
