ACTION, Pride, Juneteenth, Joy

I'll put the most urgent ACTION request right at the top: Governor Stein has until midnight tonight to veto a grotesque, trumpian embrace of ICE that the state legislature put on his desk. Please call Governor Stein’s office at 919-814-2000 and press 5. Politely leave a recording with your name, city, and a request for him to veto senate bill 153 and house bill 318.

Your voice matters, and this action could make the difference in whether Stein understands that we have to stand up together for everybody under attack. This action you take today should take you less than three minutes, and will mean so much for so many families across the state. These bad bills are getting coverage in the local Latino press, but Latino communities can't do this alone. After you've made that call, come back here for some joyful updates. Please make the call.

Y'all despite all the heavy and frustrating news around us, I'm so delighted to be writing to you from Carrboro in June of 2025. I'll give you three reasons.

  • First, see the Carrboro Pride Month page. We do Pride right in Carrboro.
  • Second, let's have a round of applause for the Combined Chapel Hill and Carrboro Juneteenth celebration in Carrboro.

  • Last but not least, it brought me so much joy to get to Town Hall this past Tuesday and find a party out front celebrating Carrboro being the first to complete all ten steps to receive designation as as a Breastfeeding Family Friendly Community. Walking up to this party and finding out about all the hard work they put in to get to the point of this declaration put a big smile on my face. It's very Carrboro!

I'll say it again: living in Carrboro brings me so much joy. From simple pleasures like running on trails in Carolina North and taking my kids to play in Dr. MLK Jr. Park, to annual events for both Pride and Juneteenth. June is reliably a month for sharing joy in Carrboro.

Warmly,

CMP
