Issue #30 - The orchestration layer that treats your warehouse as the source of truth, not an afterthought
What it is
Your GTM stack is probably five tools duct-taped together with Zapier and a prayer. Leads arrive from forms, intent alerts, CRM updates, and product events — and somebody has to stitch all of it into a pipeline before the signal goes cold. Cargo's answer: instead of connecting ten tools with Zapier, you build multi-agent workflows that extract, enrich, qualify, and engage leads automatically.
It offers built-in storage to integrate and unify data from CRM, product insights, marketing, and intent signals directly on top of your warehouse, without ever storing customer data locally. The result is one place where the full lead lifecycle lives — from raw signal to booked meeting.
Where it sits in the stack
Cargo sits in the orchestration & automation layer. It structures workflows around four steps: Extract (pull leads from CRMs, forms, intent alerts, product events), Enrich (layer data from providers to build complete profiles), Qualify (score and segment based on fit and intent), and Engage (trigger outreach via email, SMS, or task assignment).
Compared to Workato, which is often very IT-heavy, Cargo offers a specialized environment for GTM engineers; compared to Clay, the focus is more on orchestrating entire agent teams rather than just data enrichment. It connects natively with Apollo.io, 6sense, Instantly, Salesloft, Attio, BigQuery, and 100+ other tools — making it a plausible replacement for bespoke Zapier/Make glue code or a general-purpose automation platform like Workato.
Three workflows people actually run
1. Closed-won lookalike prospecting — When a deal closes in your CRM (Salesforce or HubSpot), Cargo's Extract step fires a trigger. Datadome built a systematic pipeline where, for each closed-won deal detected in their CRM, they automatically generated lookalike accounts. From there, Cargo enriches the lookalike list via providers like Clearbit, ZoomInfo, or Cognism, scores them against your ICP model, and pushes qualified accounts into your outreach tool (Instantly, Smartlead, Outreach) with personalized fields already populated. No spreadsheet hand-off, no SDR copy-paste.
2. Signal-triggered outbound with dynamic email copy — Connect an intent provider (6sense or Albacross) to Cargo's Extract layer. When a target account hits a scoring threshold, Cargo pulls firmographic and technographic context, runs it through an Anthropic or OpenAI prompt to generate a personalized email, then hands off to your sending tool via API. Gorgias used Cargo to replace static segmentation with dynamic, AI-driven content generation, built conditional logic flows for real-time email customization, and integrated with the Instantly API for automated email dispatch — resulting in a 70% increase in conversion rates compared to previous sequences.
3. CRM hygiene as a continuous background job — Most teams clean their CRM once a quarter, manually. In Cargo you set a recurring workflow: pull all contacts updated in the last 30 days, run waterfall enrichment across BetterContact → Anymail Finder → Wiza, deduplicate on account domain, and write the golden record back to Salesforce or Attio. Users can define business entities, create segments without SQL, build workflows using native integration connectors, and deploy templates for tasks such as deduplication, data enrichment, lead scoring, account assignment, and waterfall enrichment. Set it, schedule it, forget it — until your AE stops complaining about stale phone numbers.
What it costs
Free plan: 100 enrichment credits (one-time, not monthly), 10,000 orchestration steps, 100,000 storage inserts — community support, no credit card required.
Starter: $250/mo — 2,500 enrichment credits, email support, all integrations, AI agents, and workflows included. Annual billing saves 12%.
Professional: $1,190/mo — 17,000 enrichment credits, priority support, SSO included.
Enterprise: $3,000+/mo — 50,000+ enrichment credits, dedicated support, SSO and custom integrations.
The credit gotcha is real and three-dimensional. There are three types of credit consumption: enrichment credits (cost matches each data provider's pricing shown in the interface; one call = one or more credits depending on the provider), orchestration steps (100 workflow steps = 1 credit, so a 10-step workflow processing 100 leads = 10 credits), and storage inserts (1,000 inserts = 1 credit — writing data to Cargo's internal storage counts against your balance). Run the math before you commit: 2 SDRs processing 500 leads/week through a 5-step enrichment + 10-step orchestration workflow burns roughly 10,200 credits/month — that puts you on the Professional plan at $1,190/mo. Also note: no feature gating — every plan includes AI agents, workflows, and all 100+ integrations. You're only buying volume.

Who it's for (and who should skip it)
Cargo is a good fit for mid-market and enterprise GTM teams (50+ employees) with a dedicated RevOps or GTM engineering function.
You can define your entire workspace — connectors, models, tools, agents, and plays — as TypeScript files and deploy with one command, and Cargo helps revenue teams automate their GTM motions with AI: enrich and score records, research accounts, run outbound, and keep the CRM clean — all built as code. If you have someone who can think in data models and workflow logic, this is infrastructure worth having.
Skip it if you're a small team with a simple outbound motion. Expect a 2–4 week ramp-up before anyone builds production-ready workflows. This is not a tool you hand to an SDR. It is infrastructure for the person who builds the systems SDRs use.
The large price jump from Starter ($250/mo) to Professional ($1,190/mo) with no mid-tier option, plus no native outreach sequencer (requires an external tool integration), are the other reasons to pause. If your needs are simpler, Clay at a lower price point handles enrichment-first use cases with a shallower learning curve.
