Content Sharing
Hey!
Welcome to another week; this week is also short in the US due to the Thanksgiving Holiday. Not sure if you do Black Friday shopping, but you might want to start looking now. :P
Anyhow, this week's issue is about content sharing with your teammates. I've gotten feedback that it is a nice thing I do, and people expect me to do it now!

Over the last year, I've become more intentional in sharing content with teammates.
To the point where I'm the "interesting links" person around the office. But what has been more interesting to me has been the people who reached out and sent me links they found interesting!
It lets me peek into their interests, and we establish some rapport and send links back and forth.
First times are always scary.
For some reason, I was scared at first of sending links. I thought, "Everyone knows this," or "Who cares?". But after starting to send this newsletter, I began to change my view into more of, "This is what I like, might as well share it."
I've noticed that sometimes people feel like they might be the only person interested in a topic or are curious about what others think about it.
Digital Water Cooler
Due to the pandemic, we've lost space to share and discuss things with teammates. And in some cases, we need to learn how to run these digital-only events. It's like learning a new way of working.
One interesting fact is how we tend to cluster around the same group of people on the internet. You eventually end up following the same group of people. How much does that shape us in our daily practice or what we propose at work?
Echo Chambers
That at least ends up being the same links all these tech influencers share. Or coworkers making comments that verbatim come from these people.
In general, feel free to share your interests with your teammates! You will end up having new people to talk with at the office.
Your turn!
Do you share content with your teammates? How do you create or find your community at work? Or do you even want something like that?
Happy coding!
Things I discovered in the past week
- Don't do invisible work (video). It is an interesting talk about improving your (personal) marketing around your work and how it influences promotions, feedback, etc.
- Tidy First?: A Personal Exercise in Empirical Software Design is a new book from Kent Beck in the same spirit as A Philosophy of Software Design. Both books you can read in a few hours, so I recommend picking them up!
