Remember when AI was supposed to make our jobs easier?

It did. Now you're just expected to do 5x more with it. Managing agents, coordinating multi-team workflows, making architecture decisions. A lot more responsibility, that of a staff engineer/tech lead but the same pay.

I pulled the salary data from Meta and Google, analysed the language from OpenAI and Anthropic's
latest releases, and tried to figure out: what does "L4" even mean when you're doing L5/L6 work?

The gap is real. The question is: where do you stand?
